I knew exactly what I wanted to make for this blog hop.

I went with a  book page wreath for my project. I had it pinned on Pinterest for over a year. If you Google image search you will be able to find many variations on this type of wreath. First of all if you use a book that is already old there will already be a nice patina on the pages and I think that adds a lot to the look. It took a long time to make this wreath; a full copy of Pride and Prejudice and a lot of hot glue. I'm really happy with the result though. A little note to consider if you decide to take on a project like this - This is definitely an inside wreath. The old book pages will not hold up well to the elements.

Paper Girls Challenge #31 -Doodle it!

When the challenge for doodling was suggested by Kristy at the Paper Girls Challenge blog I was so excited! I thought this would be a cinch! Anyhow when it came close to the deadline for submissions I started getting a creative block. Luckily when I sat down to actually make a project I just forced myself to start and this is what I came out with. I traced some arrows with my Kiwi Lane templates Nature #3. Then I doodles different designs on the inside of the arrows.  Then for the chevron design on the strip of blue cardstock I just traced the point of the arrow over and over. The small craft star I traced with my gold Stampin' Dazzle Marker. And lastly after stamping Thanks with the Pool Party Ink, I went back and accented the letters with a Pool Party Marker.

Paper Girls Challenge #27: Snowflakes

When coming up with my project for the new Paper Girls challenge about Snowflakes I remembered some of the pages I made for my December Daily album I made. I never got around to blogging it and actually haven't quite finished it either. It's on my long "To-Do" list. Instead of  buying a kit I bought a mist-able canvas album by Prima. I really wanted to go through my stash of Christmas papers that I already had and use some of them up. I rarely scrap Christmas and this is why I wanted to do the December Daily. I think the main reason why I only have a handful of Christmas pages scrapped is because I end up with so many pictures that I get a little overwhelmed and also wonder how many Christmas pages I can scrap per year, etc. So I think this ended up being a great compromise.

Here's the outside of the album. It started as just a cream colored canvas outside. I pulled out some of my Dylusion's mists and made a mask with some transparency and a SU snowflake die that I had from the Holiday Mini catalog. I layered the misting so some areas were darker than others and spritzed with water to blend. I also took the top off the spray bottle after it was semi dry and dripped some full strength dye on to add one more layer of depth. I think I need to add some sort of label/ title to the front of my book but still don't quite know what I want to do.

Here is a page that I haven't added pictures to but had gone through and pre embellished for a jumping off point. I did the negative effect with the SU snowflake die and backed it with a small print from OA. On the other page I had cut some snowflakes on my cricut out of vellum and added them to the misted canvas page with glue dots.

This is one of my favorite pages that I did. I created a pocket at the bottom of this plastic insert with sticky strip tape and put some wood veneer stars and glass glitter for a shaker page. I made sure to allow enough room at the top for the print of my digital Christmas card that I designed to send out this year.

The page on the right I decided to stamp and color a page to add to the mixed media feel of this book.

This page is kind of fun with the mini 8 punched center pages I added. I was running out of room for all of the things we did this particular day. They also came in handy for extra journaling space.

This is the last page I wanted to show off. I busted out my sewing machine for this insert style page. I just wanted to make some pockets with Christmas/ Wintery themed embellishments. I used some pieces from a K&Co Christmas pack and also some pieces for my October Afternoon Holiday Style flower sack. The nice thing about the OA pieces are that they are printed on both sides so I didn't need to back them with something else since the pockets show on both sides.

The Paper Girls Challenge #22: Neon

 The latest challenge at the Paper Girls Challenge is to use Neon colors on your project. There's a bonus for using neon colors in a non traditional way with Holiday or winter themed projects. I decided to go ahead and make a Christmas card for my sample.

I decided to use the emboss resist technique combined with my Dylusions spray ink to make my card. First I embossed all of my images with clear embossing powder on white card stock. Then I spritzed the pieces with the different Dylusions colors. The background is Bubble gum Pink, the tree is  Fresh Lime, and the sentiment is Vibrant Turquoise. I spritzed each piece with water after the dye ink to make sure the color ran and i got even coverage. Ther will be a little bit of running under the embossing but I like the variations in color. As you can see in the close up I added some SU Dazzling Details around the Labels die shapes. I wanted to frame them a little more in a subtle way.

The theme we decided to go with is altered art. I know some of you will be excited about Christmas coming up and some might be a little stressed thinking about it. I decided to alter an empty tin that my favorite hot chocolate comes in. I remember thinking a long time ago that it would be perfect to gift cookies or those dipped pretzels in. So I stashed it away. Boy I was glad that I saved it because when the topic of altered items came up for the blog hop I knew exactly what I was going to use.

 

I have a bunch of the So Sophe line from My Mind's eye and I decided that it would look good for a Christmas gift. I grabbed various SU ribbons I have laying around that coordinated. Then I used a fun new stamp and die bundle in the Stampin' Up Holiday Mini catalog -  Friendship Preserves. You can stamp your image and then position the thin die over the image to cut it out using a die cut machine such as the Big Shot. Lastly, I used some wide red washi tape to edge the top of the lid.

 Here's a shot of the before. I put one of my favorite Polish Pottery mugs to pose with the tin. I love me some Polish Pottery! It's my other obsession.

Paper Girls Challenge #18

I feel like such a blogging slacker right now! I know I was supposed to post this a week ago and I'm pretty disappointed in myself but as a disclaimer this post went live when I was out of town. First I was at a scrapbooking retreat put on by ScrapbookSteals and then I stayed a couple of extra days to visit with family I have in the SLC area. It was so much fun but I was exhausted when I finally got home. By the way I got to meet up with four other ladies from Paper Girls and it was so fun to see them in person. I met Heather and Kristy last year but Sheryl and Amber I had yet to meet. So much fun!

Here is my creation based on the inspiration photo. I absolutely adore the colors in this photo. I wanted to replicate the layered up shapes, textures, drips and the lovely transparent portions. So on some of my circles I created a mask and sponged ink within the mask, or painted inside of it. The large yellow is misted with Mr Hueys. My color palate in SU colors is: Melon Mambo, Tangerine Tango, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight and Pool Party. Then I used the Circle Circus stamp set from Stampin' Up which was perfect to accent the other circles and bring pattern into it. Lastly I wanted to bring the circles off the matted area so I cut some with punches and with my Cricut.I used some embellishments from Amy Tangerine Sketchbook to accent the rest of my page.

Paper Girls Challenge #17: Acetate or Transparency

 

Here we are at another new challenge with the Paper Girls Challenge blog. The challenge this round is to use acetate or transparency on your project. I decided to use a pre printed transparency that I bought a couple of Halloween's ago by Making Memories. Yeah. It's old. I still love the ghosts - so I'm glad they finally found their way onto a project!

So I made a fun little luminaria that you can use with an LED tea light. I created the background inside of the luminaria with some of the Making Memories paper that came with the transparency and added the sticker with the witch flying to create a little scene. It was very quick to put together. I think I might know what the teachers at my kid's school are getting for Halloween this year!

The stamp is brand new, I bought it at J's for $1 - but I have to say that I still prefer my red rubber stamps. This guy was cute so I was weak and snatched him up. I colored in the little cat with the Spectrum Noir alcohol markers and used my trusty SU markers to color in the Jack- O- Lantern.

The Paper Girls Challenge #16: Baby

The Challenge this time at the Paper Girls Challenge blog is make a page or project about someone/ something you consider to be your baby. Well here is another picture of Elliott when he was just two months old. Since I found this file of pictures I just had to use another one for this challenge. I remember taking this picture specifically with his little elephant toy that he loved so I could look at it and remember how happy he got when he played with it.

I used papers from a Studio Calico monthly kit from last October. I thought it would be appropriate to use up some of the stuff that I've been hoarding for over a year! I love the soft colors - even though I don't usually use them often. I did have to throw in some bright accents here and there. I thought it would be fun to use a Sassafras Lass journal card that just happened to have a 2 on it and an elephant to show his age at the time. One more thing to note is that my alpha didn't show up very well so I used a metallic gel pen and traced around the letters to bring them out more.

Paper Girls Challenge #12: Upclyled Mesh

This round is brought to you by Charity Becker. She thought it would be fun to make use of the mesh that comes from grocery store produce. I had this bit of red mesh I was saving since she announced her challenge to the rest of the Paper Girls. I had a bit of black too but didn't have time to implement my idea for it.When I started my page I don't think I was going to use it for this challenge until my friend Misty pointed out that the tree would look really cute with some red mesh wrapped around it. She was right! I love her little burst of inspiration and it really fit with the color scheme of the Little Yellow Bicycle papers I was working with.

Paper Girls Challenge #7

I just loved the sketch by Charity for this round of the Paper Girls Challenge. I was flipping through my stash of printed photos and I found this one of me when I was pretty little - between 1 1/2 - 2 here. I thought it would go great with this paper by My Mind's eye the Bright Side. The orange, teal, and olive green are reminiscent of my childhood without being overpowering.

I cut a large flower shape with my cricut for the bottom portion of the sketch and used the lovely textile print in brown. Then I outlined the flower with Manderine twine from the Twinery. I quilled a camera because I really wanted one on there and I decided that it would be fun to try my hand at it. The rest of the embellishments are October Afternoon from various lines: Sidewalks, 5 & dime, Sarsaparilla and the flour pack from Farmhouse. I really mixed it up. The little pin flags are Girls Paperie.

 We thought it would be fun to feature ATCs for our inspiration project. About a year ago all of us started participating with ATC swaps and we started with the theme of the four Seasons. I have loved receiving the little packets of miniature works of art made by all of my friends.

Spring

The ATC above is my most recent of the collection. I know it's Spring when the trees start blooming so I just had this picture in my head.  First I painted my background with ink and my aqua painter,  then I stamped the tree and leaves. I misted them with the gold smooch and white perfect pearl mist. After they were dry I added the pearl dimensional paint -- not sure of the brand. About the canvas paper it's a cool texture but it absorbs ink like crazy. So my colors were not coming out as vibrant as I wanted. I had to touch up the grass by sponging on green chalk ink. Even though the texture is cool, I think I would use multi media paper next time.
